Prostitution.....
Female prostitutes are always seen as being worse than male prostitutes or "gigolos". Iv no idea why this is as they are both doing the exact same thing and selling their bodies and themselves for money. Whether there is an important reason behind them doing this or not it is stil wrong; some prostitutes may do it because they are low on money, because they are single parents and need the money, but the main reason seems to be due to drug or alcohol habits.
It shows that the people that do this have no respect for themselves or for their gender in general because they are selling their bodies to absolutley anybody just for money.
Its not just the people who sell their bodies that are involving themselves in bad behaviour; but also the people who buy their "services" from them as they are not only acting bad but are also breaking the law (except in the netherlands where not only is it legal to be a prostitute but also to run a brothel)

Illegal Downloading.....

Illegal downloading is done constantly; i have so many friends that download music off limewire or watch copy films on different internet websites, just because it is cheaper or because its easier than going to a shop and buying a cd or dvd. You can even watch films that have just come out in the cinema and it even saves you from paying the cinema entry prices.
Really illegal downloading is exactly the same as stealing and obviously it is illegal; but then it doesnt really feel illegal because everybody seems to do it. You dont really seem to see people being prosecuted for downloading so you never think that it is such a bad crime but it mush have such a bad impact on the music and film industry.

Response to Keeleighs Blog - Animal Cruelty
http://keeleigh-blog.blogspot.com/2010/04/animal-cruelty.html
I completly agree with keeleighs views on animal cruelty and think that animals should be treated with the same care and compassion that we treat other people with. Although i do think that animal cruelty is much worse than just bad behaviour as it is completly unlawful and physically hurts another living thing.
I have no idea how people can hurt and abuse animals; it physically makes me sick that people think it is a good thing to do or that it is a right thing to do. And i dont think that the sentances are big enough for people who commit animal cruelty; some even get away with just fines and this is not justice atall.

Celebrity Culture.....

Celebrities have such a big impact on peoples everyday lives; especially some young people who look up to them and want to be like them. If a celebrity is behaving badly and it is spread all over magazines and newspapers then young peoplewho are easily influenced may think that this behaviour is normal and ty to mimic it. Celebrities bad beahviour doesnt just mean drugs and alcohol; but it can also be related to "infidelity" which i have created a post about earlier in my blog because this can just as much influence on young people as drugs or alcohol would.
An example is amy winehouse; she is pictured so much when druk or high on drugs and her life story is out there for anyone to read. If young people are reading about her doing drugs constantly or drinking non stop then they might think its okay to do it. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/celebrities-behaving-badly-why-we-all-love-bad-girls-436735.html
Even though most people probably wouldnt copy celebrities exact behaviour, there are some who may do so because they want to be just like them or they are their role model and it can lead to the young person having problems.

Swearing.....

It seems that everybody swears; whether it is constantly in veery sentnce or just when they are angry or frustrated. I myself only swear occasionally; when i am angry at something or am upset at someone and it feels right to swear. I do think there are different types of swear words though and that some definatley are worse than other; there is always one word that i think is disgusting - the "c" word!
I think its down to peoples own opinions if they want to swear or not; but i do think its wrong when said in front of young children.. This is because its giving the children the idea that it is okay to swear all of the time; i hav experienced this when volunterring in a primary school and a 9 year old child used to swear and he could only have heard it from family members which is giving the complete wrong view on swearing.

Stalking.....

Stalking is seen as unlawfully and sneakilly following a certain person around; for example a celebrity. An example is Michael Douglas; he was stalked after filiming "fatal attraction" and the stalker (Dawnette Knight) even sent threatening letters about killing his wife Catherine Zeta Jones to his house; it is scary that people can get hold of your personal details like your address or phone number so easily and that things like this dont just happen to celebrities but can happen to all of us. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/entertainment/celebrity/Celebrities_Whove_Been_Stalked.html
Another type of stalking is on the internet; such as facebook stalking. Everyone seems to do it; whether its just occasionally checking on a friends profile or some people who obsessively "stalk" their partners facebook page. We are all setting ourselves up to be "facebook stalked" as soon as we set a profile up because you are putting your life on a social networking site including pictures of yourself; but that doesnt make it right.

Gambling.....

The first thing i did for this blog entry was type gambling into google; and no suprise a lot of the results were websites to take part in gambling or websites which gave advice for which sites are best or tips on how to win the game. I can see why gambling can become addictive, but only to a point. When people are in thousands worth of debt personally i would think i have to stop and force myself to. But people seem to just get more and more in debt until it gets to a point where they are having their cars taken off them or even their family houses.
I dont really do much gambling; iv been in a casino a couple of times when on a night out and won about £10 but it wouldnt appeal to me to stay there all night and lose a lot of money. Another thing is the lottery; some people can become really addicted and buy tickets every week; i think ive done it only once because i really dont expect to win it and dont see why i should waste my money on it.
Although i do buy scratch cards more so than anything else; this is because i think you have more chance of winning on it and 3/4 of the time i do win some money back; so maybe thats why i have stuck to them.
Being addicted to gambling is just like being addicted to drinking or drugs and it can be very hard for people to break away from the habbit as they may be so used to doing it; even if they have lost thousand of pounds, and their friends and families in the process.
But i do have to agree with the picture above; gamblers families for example may only see that their family member has a problem when they are loosing money. But if they are winning hundreds and thousands of pounds they wouldnt see it as a problem, but would see it as a blessing to have won this amount of money.

Abortion.....

Personally i think it is up to the individual; even though it would be a very very difficult decision to go through with an abortion, if it isnt right for that individual to be pregnant then i dont think it would be right to make them keep the baby.
Heres a link to some true stories from people who have had abortions and how it has affected them: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2006/oct/27/healthandwellbeing.society

Plastic surgery.....
There are many different reasons as to why people have plastic surgery; it could be a medical reason for example they broke their nose when they were younger and need it reshapi
ng, or it may be an asthetic reason such as a boob job as someone doesnt like their body shape. Out of all of my friends, including myself, that i asked all would have liposuction and boob jobs for asthetic resons and some would liek to have other procedures also such as nose jobs and botox.

There was a tv programme on the other week about some of the most strangest plastic surgery procedures and heres the link if you want to watch it:
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-worlds-and-me/4od#3054872
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-worlds-and-me/4od#3054872
I think its peoples personal opinions on whether they want to have plastic surgery or not; some people may be really happy with their bodies and so plastic surgery will make them happier in life. But there are some people who can take it too far and it starts to look abnormal; take Alicia Douvall for example she has had way too much plastic surgery and this has made her daughter think it is normal.

Response to Vicky's Blog - Tattoos and Body midification
http://vickybroster.blogspot.com/2010/04/tattoos-and-body-modification.html
I completly agree with vickys views on tattoos and peircings; it is up to the individual if they want to get an unusal piercing or tattoo but some people can definatley take it too far. Tattoos and pericings can look really nice like vicky says if done well and not taken over the top; but people definatly do have their own opinions on what looks nice and what doesnt but everybody is different.

The size zero debate.....
Size zero is something we hear about all the time in the news; mostly the news covers
stories behind teenagers who are starving themselves to become thin like their favourite celebrities; even though in reality the celebrities may have een airbrushed in the magazines and dont actually look like that in real life; giving teenagers false ideas.
There are so many problems that can come from trying to gain that size zero such as osteoperosis, emotional problems and at a dangerous point it can lead to vital organs shutting down and failing.
Personally i think size zero is horrible; i dont think the size zero models, for example, look feminine or how women actually should do. They just look ill, withdrawn and tired. Its strange how some people can say that a size 10 or 12 are fat when most people in the UK are this size or higher; it completly depends on the individual and as long as someone is eating health and exercises then that should be acceptable; rather than starving youself to become tiny.
This is a link to Dawn Porter (a celebrity) who took part in an experiment to try and get to a size zero and recorded her journey:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-432939/My-quest-size-zero.html

Alcohol.....

Personally i think theres nothing wrong with going out and having a few drinks or getting drunk, its a part of growing up and im sure weve all been in a complete state where we cant remember what we did the night before. I know i have! But its a different case when you see a friend or someone else being sick in the toilets and not knowing where they are and it does make you quite wary.
I do think though that the teenagers under 18 who are able to get hold of alochol shouldnt; this is because at least at 18 you are more mature and know the consequences, whereas a 15 year old probably doesnt carewhat they are doing and will care less about the effects the alcohol have on them.
Heres a link to the effects drinking has on your mind and body throughout the night

Response to Donna's Blog - Foul language or common vocab?
http://donnacourt.blogspot.com/2010/03/sfd.html
I agree with what Donna has said; swearing should only be used when it is really needed for example when someone is frustrated or angry. But there are some people that swear in literally every sentance and on the other hand some that dont like swearing atall. Personally i only swear when its really needed, like when im upset or when im angry; i dont go out of my way to swear everytime i talk. I also agree with what Donna says about swearing can lead to violence such as a fight between people; also if you have young children and they hear swearing all the time then they will think its normal and grow up using swear words.

Tattoos and Body Modification.....
The body modification part in this lecture actually did shock me; i cannot believe some of the things people do to themselves to be "different."

I have no objection to tattoos and piercings atall as long as they are done classy and not some wierd piercing like on your chin or something; I have two tattoos and would love some more but mine are in places which can be covered and i had them for myself, not for anybody else. I also have two sets of piercings in my ears and my belly button pierced but that is as far as i would go with piercings.

There are a number of reasons as to why people modify their body; they could like what it looks like, they may want to be different to everyone else, they may like the pain they get from it or may just want something new in their life.
Personally i think there are some people that take it way too far; for example the picture on the right. I dont want to offend anyone but i dont think this looks right, and it must be so hard for him to find a job or meet new people and to carry on his life like normal. This man could never go back to looking normal and even though he may think it is cool now, when he is an old man it will look ridiculous.
Heres a link to some very shocking types of body modification:

Infidelity.....

Thing is we see it all over the news about celebrities cheating on their partners and getting away with it so it is drummed in our head that it is normal to cheat, and that nothing bad will come from it. There are so many examples; jud
e law, hugh grant, ashley cole, tiger woods, wayne rooney; as you've noticed it seems to be all celebrity men that cheat. Take cheryl tweedy for example; ashley cole cheated on her once and she took him back and it then resulted in him cheating again and hurting her even more. It not only hurts the people that are in the relationship but also children, friends and family; its basically like cheating on everyone around you as it can upset a lot of people.

There may be many reasons behind people cheating e.g being bored in a relationship, drunk, wanting some attention; but whichever reason you are hurting your partner and the people around you as it is immoral and bad behaviour.

Response to Abi Southalls blog "Masturbation"
http://abisouthall.blogspot.com/
I agree with abi! The things we were told in this lecture were shocking; i cant believe that masturbation was looked upon as such a bad thing and given such a bad punishment. Even though it isnt really talked about as much now as people can be embarrassed, people are more open to the idea that it is normal and not something "bad."

Bandits and Outlaws.....

Bandits and outlaws are literally people that "live outside of the law." A few examples i can think of are Robin Hood, John Dillinger, Jesse James and Bonnie and Clyde.
One thing i did notice is that all these bandits and outlaws have either been televised or made into a movie; why is this? Do people find this life interesting? Do they wish they could live their lives outside of the law? Or
do people just want to know more about them?
Fair enough a couple of these peple (Robin Hood and Jesse James) actually used to steal from the ric to give to the poor people and people worse off than themselves but does this make their law breaking right? Honestly i dont think so. Even though they are trying to help other people they are hurting others in doing so and i dont think doing something good cancels out something they did which was wrong.

Are bandits and outlaws really bad people? For example Robin Hood, even though he stole from people, was doing it for a good reason but does this make it right? Personally i think not.

Drugs.....

There are many different types of drugs including narcotics, hypnotics, stimulants, inebriants and hallucinogens. Even though these are all drugs some people may not class certain things as drugs; for example tea and coffee are stimulants, but because everyone uses them everyday no problem is surrounding them. But they can become highly addictive and bad for your health, just the same as other well known drugs for example heroin and cocaine.
After looking at this picture its made me think why on earth people actually take drugs when this is the real effect of not even that long a durg misuse.
Personally iv never taken drugs (such as ecstasy, cannabis etc) and dont think i ever will; i dont really see the attraction to them especially after i know what they can do to your body and especially after looking at the picture above.
Although it is easy to see why people become addicted very easily; for example a young teenager may just copy their friends and think its harmless and fun but then end up with a life threatening addiction. Or it may be becasue they like the early effects of drugs which may allow them to forget the stresses in their life or allow them to become more confident, but afterwards it just makes them feel horrible.
Heres a link to some real life stories about people who have been addicted to drugs:

Bad Cinema.....

When i watched "kids" i have to say i was completly shocked; i mean i know things like this happen throughout our teenage lives and i have gone through some of those stages but i think to see it all together put it into a better and more shocking perspective.
Even though it was created to shock and warn people i think it would have done this more so when it was first released 14 years go, as nowadays what happens in the film is the norm compared to back then. The film focused on everything that we know happens in society nowadays and back when it was released, but people dont like to talk about it and acknowledge that teenagers do get up to things like this.
Even though this film is quite disturbing there have been more made more recently which show people what happens still; for example kidulthood and adulthood, and also films like rain.
Heres a link to read more about the film:

Masturbation.....

This is the one thing i can think of that people are scared to talk about; we can talk about sex, drugs and even prostitution but for some reason people seem uncomfortable to talk about masturbation! Why is this? Is it because people are embarrassed, or because even little children are told to "stop messing with it" and it sticks in their heads as they grown up?
Years ago masturbation was completly forbidden, and people who were "addicted to it" were given medicine, cold baths and even hard beds to "prevent them from doing the deed" and werent allowed any stimulants such as coffee or milk. Even though it isnt anywhere near as bad nowadays, people are still holding back from talking about this subject compared to others.
What i dont understand is why can people openly talk about sex and their sexual partners and relationships, yet be completly embarrassed and think that it is bad to talk about masturbation......

Telling lies with integrity.....

Everybody lies; whether its big lies which can end up hurting people or just little white lies which are told to protect someone for example. Personally i cannot lie to save my life, literally i just give myself away straightaway as i am terrible at it! Although if i have to lie to protect myself or somebody around me i will; this is the only type of lying that i think is acceptable. Lying is bad behaviour but if it is to stop someone from being hurt or getting upset then i think its okay. Since weve been born weve been around people lying; the first thing that comes to mind is father christmas; were lied to as a child about him, about the tooth fairy, and the easter bunny. Why is this? Is it because children are more innocent and believe anything we say so we dont see it as lying, or because we know that we will get away with it....
Here's a link that talks about why parents lie to children if u want to read more http://www.paulgraham.com/lies.html

Smoking......

Personally i dont smoke; never have and never will. I really dont see the attraction, even though iv been brought up wih family members and friends who smoke, i dont see why its so addictive (except for the nicotine obviously) And i am really glad its been banned i restaraunts etc, theres nothing worse than smelling smoke while your eating a nice meal! Sorry smokers!!
When researching i saw an article on the internet that i thought was quite relevent for this module; it says that women who smoke while they are pregnant produce children who are hyperactive and have bad behaviour. It discusses the fact that boys who re exposed to smoking when in the womb have both bad behaviour and attention problems, whereas girls just have behaviour problems!
